just find a cool look for it. I don't understand what African American hair, is but, it's hair. If you REALLY want to thin it out shave it all off. Then your hair will cease to be an issue.

What do you mean you have "african american hair"? It doesn't lay down like like white hair is "supposed" to do? Look around you. White have all kinds of hair texture. Kinky, slightly curly, very curly, straight as a board. If you want the flat look, you can follow the advice of the people here and put chemicals in it. But maybe you should just go to a good stylist and find out what is the best cut for your type of hair. You might be surprise at how cool it looks with the right 'do. Try that first before you start frying it. Because if you do, you'll probably have to do i the rest of your life. Because how will it look if you've had straight hair for a couple of years and all of a studden you come out with "african american hair"?
